RED RIBBON MONTH!! Happy Birthday Coalition! Red Ribbon is the oldest and largest drug prevention campaign in the country. Red Ribbon serves as a vehicle for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug free lives with the ultimate goal being the creation of drug free America. And, perhaps more importantly, Red Ribbon commemorates the ultimate sacrifice made by DEA Special Agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena, who died at the hands of drug traffikers in Mexico while fighting the battle against illegal drugs to keep our country and children safe.

The buring of KINGSTON Re-Enactment On October 16, 1777, the village of Kingston was burned to the ground. Every few years with the help of extraordinary local historical societies, museums, and Revolutionary War re-enactors the city commemorates this spirited exchange. October 16-18, will celebrate the 232nd Anniversary of the Burning of Kingston. When the British come to Kingston this year there will definitely be people waiting for them. Today, the threat of a burning doesnt send people fleeing; it draws the public in to watch. October 16th will start the weekend off with the Council of War meetings. One held by the Militia, Uptown at the Hoffman House Tavern; the other held by the British, Downtown at the waterfront landing at Kingston Point Beach. Saturday, the 17th will be filled with waterfront re-enactments, opportunities to tour the encampments and sample goods on sale from vendors. Finally the jewel of the day belongs to the Colonial Ball, Saturday evening in Council Chambers of City Hall. Period dress is not required but participation is encouraged. Sunday, October 18, the troops will battle by land and sea along the Hudson River and Rondout Creek. As cool heads prevail, the afternoon will hold its first meet & greet the re-enactors. Get up close and personal with the men and women who participate in 18th century re-enactments. This is a fun and friendly way to learn about history! For further details about the weekends events check out www.firstulster.org or call toll free (800-331-1518) the Heritage Area Visitor Center.
