6pm-10pm (start time?) UAS (United Arab Society at UCLA) Annual Arab Culture Show at Ackerman 2nd Floor Lounge Free The show centers around an overarching theatrical play based on the story of a young Arab girl who is caught between pursuing a career path that will satisfy her parents’ expectations and one that will fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming an artist. The story strives to portray a balanced Arab perspective by combining the diversity within the Arab world, and a simultaneous universality that allows for everyone in attendance to relate. Woven into the story are cultural dances, music, art, and, for the second time, a comedy show by professional comedians from the “Sultans of Satire: Middle Eastern Comic Relief” show.Featuring performances of traditional Arab dances such as Debke, Saidi, Khaliji and Belly Dancing. Others will be reciting famous Arabic poetry, while two of our members are creating their own original musical duet specifically for the event. The end result is an eclectic collection of what it means to be Arab from the point of view of our members.
